Tanya Hamilton directed the 2011 period drama Night Catches Us, starring Kerry Washington and Anthony Mackie as former Black Panthers. She was also part of the all-women directing team of the OWN drama Queen Sugar. In 2012, she wrote, directed and co-produced Good Country People, which was shot on location in Jamaica.

While his arrival raises suspicion among his family and former neighbors, he finds acceptance from his old friend Patricia (Kerry Washington) and her daughter.
