Millicent Shelton is an award-winning director and writer who got her start in the industry as a wardrobe production assistant on Spike Lee’s 1989 film Do The Right Thing. Shelton directed the 1998 comedy Ride, about an aspiring music video director who has to transport a spoiled music label artist via bus due to budget constraints. Shelton has also directed for several modern classic TV shows including 30 Rock, Everybody Hates Chris, Insecure, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage. Shelton also directed music videos for Aaliyah, CeCe Peniston, Mary J. Blige, and Salt N Pepa (the iconic “Let’s Talk About Sex”). In 2009, Shelton became the first Black woman nominated for a primetime Emmy for directing for her work on 30 Rock.
