Black Women Directors was founded in 2015 by Danielle A. Scruggs. The mission: to expand the film canon and increase the visibility of Black women and nonbinary filmmakers by indexing their work, fostering online conversations, and facilitating hiring opportunities.

Hey Chicago! Black Women Directors is teaming up with Black Film Club Chicago for an upcoming film symposium and we’re seeking short documentaries & narrative short films of all genres. Submissions must be created by Black Chicago-based filmmakers.
